Unlike the astrological new year, the new year beginning on January 1st, is just a social convention.
Our calendar has changed several times over the millennia until we got to the Gregorian calendar used in most parts of the world. The names of months and days of the week also changed, sometimes to honor emperors and religious leaders.
Although the Gregorian calendar is based on the movement of the earth in relation to the Sun, its primary motivation was to establish a new method for determining Easter day.
At least since Babylon (2334 B.C.), everything was based on astrology, including the calendar. And according to the astrological calendar, the new year begins during the Spring Equinox in the northern hemisphere and the Autumn Equinox in the southern hemisphere, which takes place around March 20 or 21.
It is the moment the Sun enters the Aries constellation, the first of the 12 astrological constellations. A new astrological year starts as the Sun transits from Pisces to Aries. Paving the way for a new cycle - time to review and update your goals according to the ruling planets of the year.
Magician Star or Chaldee’s Star or Septagram
The Babylon symbol known as the Chaldee’s Star, Magician Star, or Septagram is a time calculator. It contains the 7 planets forming a star.
At that time, each of the 7 days of the week was associated with one of these planets. Even today, the days of the week are associated with the planets in some languages. For example, in Italian:
- Luna (Moon): Lunedì (Monday)
- Marte (Mars): Martedì (Tuesday)
- Mercurio (Mercury): Mercoledì (Wednesday)
- Giove (Jupiter): Giovedì (Thursday)
- Venere (Venus): Venerdì (Friday)
- Saturno (Saturn): Sabato (Saturday) but in Latin (Saturni)
- Sole (Sun): Domenica (Sunday) but in Latin (Solis)
In the Septagram, the planets are placed in a circle from Saturn to Moon. Yes, the week starts on Saturday and ends on Friday.
We notice an energetic flow from Saturn to the Sun, Sun to Moon, Moon to Mars, Mars to Mercury, Mercury to Jupiter, Jupiter to Venus, and finally from Venus to Saturn, restarting the cycle. The cycle starts at Saturn, so it receives the number 1.
Saturn is the most important planet for alchemists because it rules the incarnation process. It is also the planet of responsibility and commitment, where our soul mission is created. Throughout our lifetime, it demands the fulfillment of that purpose.
Ruling Planets, Cycles, and Eras
Those who study astrology know that each year has a ruling planet. But in alchemical astrology, based on the Magician Star, each year has a micro-ruler that changes every year, and every 36 years, a new macro-regent enters. It is like the king and queen. 2 planets rule the year: the macro and micro rulers.
The Magician Star has 3 movements determining:
Every 36 years, we have a new macro regent ending a cycle. And every 7 cycles of 36 years change, we have a major cycle that lasts 252 years. And every 8 major cycles, we have a new era, which lasts 2016 years. Better to exemplify, right?
In 2017 began, the macro-regency of Saturn. Adding up 36 years, we see that in 2053 the macro-ruler will be Venus, who will reign for the next 36 years.
So we see that we are in a macrocycle that started in 2017 and will end in 2269. We are living in an exciting moment. We are at the beginning of a new astrological era that began in 2016 and will end in 4032!
Astrological New Year 2022
2022 is macro ruled by Saturn and micro ruled by Mercury. Mercury rules Virgo and Gemini. Saturn rules Capricorn.
Gemini is the power of communication, while Virgo is the energy of organization and health. So we have Capricorn with the energy of responsibility, demanding better communication, organization, and health.
Mercury to the Romans is Hermes to the Greeks: the God of Communication. Communication connects worlds, connects people, and ideas. It is crucial to use intelligence to communicate truthfully and effectively without manipulating people. Gemini also enhances the ability to inspire and understand others.
Review your Goals for 2022
The Astrological New Year is exceedingly favorable to review the goals you’ve set in January. Keep in mind that all the feelings we have about the traditional New Year also suit the Astrological New Year, but with even more power. Because it adds to the equation the influence of Aries.
Aries’s willpower and action energy can help you prioritize your goals and put them into action with more vigor.
In 2022, regardless of your desires and goals, prioritize your responsibility with your life purpose. Organize it with the energy of Virgo, and communicate it accurately using the power of Gemini and the creativity of Capricorn.
In addition, we should all insert in our goals list special care for our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health (Virgo).
In short, connect with the energies of Capricorn, Gemini, and Virgo and let the magic happen!
